How can you rely on the Savior’s grace to you become a better instrument in His hands?
First, do you understand what grace is?
Grace is divine help and strength. Missionaries rely on the Savior’s grace on a daily basis! They need His help to guide them to those who are ready to hear the gospel and to be strong when others aren’t.
So how can we rely on grace?
First we need to approach the Savior in a humble fashion aware of our weakness. Not everyone is good public speak. Not every is good at small talk. Not everyone is good in crowds. Not everyone can quote scriptures and their reference. We all have weaknesses.
And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things becomes strong unto them.
Being a teacher for the youth isn’t always easy. Some weeks preparation is pretty easy. Other weeks, nothing seems to flow right. But the sons of Mosiah give us give us a great example of what it means to rely on the Savior’s grace and prepare to be instruments in the Lord’s hands.
Alma 17:2-3, 9-11
2 Now these sons of Mosiah were with Alma at the time the angel first appeared unto him; therefore Alma did rejoice exceedingly to see his brethren; and what added more to his joy, they were still his brethren in the Lord; yea, and they had waxed strong in the knowledge of the truth; for they were men of a sound understanding and they had searched the scriptures diligently, that they might know the word of God.
3 But this is not all; they had given themselves to much prayer, and fasting; therefore they had the spirit of prophecy, and the spirit of revelation, and when they taught, they taught with power and authority of God.
9 And it came to pass that they journeyed many days in the wilderness, and they fasted much and prayed much that the Lord would grant unto them a portion of his Spirit to go with them, and abide with them, that they might be an instrument in the hands of God to bring, if it were possible, their brethren, the Lamanites, to the knowledge of the truth, to the knowledge of the baseness of the traditions of their fathers, which were not correct.
10 And it came to pass that the Lord did visit them with his Spirit, and said unto them: Be comforted. And they were comforted.
11 And the Lord said unto them also: Go forth among the Lamanites, thy brethren, and establish my word; yet ye shall be patient in long-suffering and afflictions, that ye may show forth good examples unto them in me, and I will make an instrument of thee in my hands unto the salvation of many souls.
We can rely on the Savior’s grace by knowing and realizing that we aren’t perfect and that we do have weaknesses. If we are humble, search the scriptures diligently, fast, and pray, we can be instruments in the Lord’s hands and He will be able to trust us to do His will.
It’s not easy to do. But once you get in the habit, and once you start recognizing promptings and acting on them, you will truly be able to be the Lord’s hands.
