I have never made scones before. So I was really nervous with how they would turn out. They weren’t bad for my first time making them. However, the seemed a little dry to me. So I’ll be doing more research to find more scone recipes so I can figure out how to make them even better. In the mean time, try this recipe and let me know what you think!
2 cups All-Purpose Flour
1 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 cup unsalted Butter, cut into cubes
3/4 cup Buttermilk
1 cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
2/3 cup diced Ham
2 tbsp chopped Fresh Chives (opt)
Preheat oven to 425.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, silicone mat or use stoneware.
In a large bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, garlic powder and salt.
Add cold butter using fingers, a fork or pastry cutter and ‘cut’ until it resembles coarse crumbs.
Stir in buttermilk, cheese, ham and chives until a soft dough forms.
Working on lightly floured surface, knead the dough 3-4 times until it comes together.
Using a rolling pin, roll the dough in about an 8″ circle, about 1″ thick and cut into 8 wedges.
Places the scones on the prepared baking sheet.
Place in oven and bake for 18-20 min or until firm to the touch and lightly browned.
